Sechenov Leaders Program Tuition Fees: What the First Year Includes
Understanding the cost of a six-year medical degree is one of the first practical steps for any applicant. This page sets out what is known about Sechenov Leaders program tuition fees, what the first-year price includes, and which questions you should put to the university before signing a contract. The aim is to help you plan with accurate information rather than estimates.

The published fee
The tuition fee for the first year of the Leaders in Health Innovations track is 1,500,000 roubles. This is the only fee figure published on the official program page. The cost of the second and later years is not stated there, so it would be a mistake to assume that the same amount simply repeats for six years or to rely on unofficial figures found elsewhere.
If you are building a long-term budget, write to the program team and ask for confirmation of the fees for every year of study. Having this in writing before you commit will make planning far easier, particularly for families who are arranging funds from overseas, as many applicants in Hong Kong will be.
What the first-year price covers
The fee is for more than a standard set of lectures. According to the program, it includes the following:
- The full General Medicine curriculum. Students complete the entire educational program of the specialty, leading to the Medical Doctor qualification.
- A six-year leadership development program. This additional strand runs alongside medical training from the first year to the last.
- Additional research disciplines. These prepare students to take part in fundamental and applied research.
- Curator and mentor support. Each student is accompanied by a curator and receives mentoring throughout their studies.
- Access to university research facilities. Students can use the scientific base and laboratories of Sechenov University.
- Extracurricular events and projects. Participation in activities outside the formal timetable is part of the package.
In other words, the leadership track, the extra research training and the personal support are not optional add-ons with separate price tags; they are built into the fee.
Why the Leaders track costs more than standard General Medicine
The Leaders track is more expensive than the standard General Medicine route at the university, and it is fair to ask what the difference pays for. The answer lies mainly in how teaching is organized. Classes are held in small groups, which requires more teaching time per student. Every student has a personal curator. There is direct interaction with leading faculty, including researchers and practicing clinicians. Clinical practice is expanded, and each student follows an individual path for developing professional and soft skills.
Some applicants will value this model highly; others may prefer the standard route. Comparing the two honestly, with your own goals in mind, is a better basis for a decision than price alone. If research, mentoring and leadership development matter to you, the additional elements are likely to be relevant. If your priority is simply to obtain a medical qualification, the standard track may also suit you.
When payment is made
Payment is the final stage of admission. The process runs in three steps: first you submit your documents, then you take two entrance tests (chemistry as the priority test and Russian language as an additional one), and finally you conclude an education contract and pay. Once both of these are done, you become a student of the program. Read the contract carefully and ask the university about anything that is unclear, including the currency and schedule of payment.
You can read more about each step in our admissions section.
Other costs and weighing the investment
The published information concerns tuition only. It does not cover accommodation, travel, insurance, visas or everyday living expenses in Moscow, and this page does not attempt to estimate them. Likewise, no scholarships or discounts are mentioned for this track, so do not count on them when you plan.
Before you apply, it is worth preparing a short list of questions for the university:
- What is the tuition fee for each year from the second year onward?
- In which currency is payment made, and is it paid in one installment or several?
- What options exist for student housing, and at what cost?
- Which documents are required for entry into Russia? General guidance is available at https://welcome.sechenov.ru/en/migration-support/.
Broader information about the 2026 admission campaign is published at https://www.sechenov.ru/admissions/priemnaya-kampaniya-2026/.
Whether the track is worth the investment is something only you can judge, but it helps to know what the fee buys. Sechenov University is ranked first for medical education in Russia, and its diploma is valued in dozens of countries. The track adds research experience, leadership training and an individual development path to the core qualification. Working as a doctor abroad will depend on the recognition rules of the country concerned, which is another point to research before committing.
